Transmission Operations Engineer

Provides operational, technical, and analytical support of the transmission system for the System Operations group which includes Avista’s Transmission, Balancing Authority, and Energy Imbalance Market Entity operations. Engineering support includes technical knowledge of Avista’s transmission system, interconnected grid, industry operating policies and criteria, and system status and performance. Engineering support also includes performing seasonal and daily operational power system analysis, as well as emergency operational studies for outages as required; coordinating, developing, implementing and maintaining system operating procedures; recommending, analyzing, and supporting system capital projects; and developing practices and procedures that support the Company’s overall compliance with applicable mandatory reliability standards.  Participates in regional operating committees, task forces, and work groups as required.

• Bachelor of Science in ABET accredited Electrical Engineering Program
• Knowledge of transmission and distribution systems
• Knowledge of NERC standards and/or Reserve Sharing programs preferred
• Experience in protection engineering, system planning, or system operations preferred
• Professional Engineering License preferred
• Effective and flexible communication skills

• Minimum of four (4) years engineering work experience required

• Minimum of eight (8) years engineering work experience required
• Professional Engineering License
• Demonstrated skills illustrating use of productivity, presentation, and analytical tools specific to area of expertise
• Demonstrated technical leadership within engineering
• Demonstrated positive and effective working relationships with internal and external parties

Engineer: Hiring Range: $96,517 - $126,439, Full Range: $96,517 - $156,359

Senior Engineer: Hiring Range: $109,815 - $144,406, Full Range: $109,815 - $178,999

Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with an additional day determined by the employee and manager.
