Job Description
The Avista Utilities Candidate Pool for Apprentice Gas Serviceman in Oregon is being opened to identify qualified employees interested in the apprenticeship. This position could require apprentices to relocate for training as part of their job.
Gas Serviceman Apprentice's job duties include:
Providing an extraordinary commitment to customer satisfaction. Delivering on our commitments. Making decisions that demonstrate honesty, integrity, and accountability, and that promote the success of Avista. Being an active and supportive participant within your team. Inspecting and servicing all types of domestic, commercial and industrial gas equipment and install meters and regulators. Investigating reported gas leaks and to take necessary measures to insure public safety and the restoration of service. This position is the highest of a multi-step progression from Apprentice Serviceman to Serviceman Gas and is expected to know all aspects of Serviceman Gas duties for the Company as well as perform shared tasks with Journeyman Gas. Lower steps in this classification are expected to progress into all aspects of these duties.
Requirements
- Successful completion of:
- Basic Electricity Vol. 1
- Fundamentals of Natural Gas
- Successful applicant will have six (6) months to complete and pass the knowledge test for Basic Electricity Vol. 1 and Fundamentals of Natural Gas.
- High school graduate or completed GED.
- Provide proof of valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
- Meet work performance requirements as shown by satisfactory performance reports suitable for apprentice classification.
Apprentice Gas Serviceman must live within 15 miles of the city limits of their established Company Construction headquarters.

This position is considered safety-sensitive under the Department of Transportation regulations 49 CFR Part 40 and may be subject to pre-employment drug and/or alcohol testing as well as other testing and training requirements as mandated by federal law.
