About Us
At Avivo, we are committed to ending homelessness through Housing First and Harm Reduction approaches. Avivo Village is a unique, low-barrier shelter providing a safe and supportive space for individuals experiencing homelessness, including those actively using substances. Our team works together to foster dignity, respect, and long-term housing stability for all residents.
Your Role
As a Resident Advocate, you will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming and safe environment at Avivo Village. You’ll support residents by providing essential services, fostering connections, and ensuring a clean and secure space. This is a hands-on role for someone who is passionate about harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and working directly with individuals facing housing insecurity.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Building trust with residents by providing support, de-escalating conflicts, and fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
- Conducting regular safety and wellness checks in rooms and shared spaces.
- Distributing food, harm reduction supplies, and other basic necessities.
- Responding to crises, including administering Narcan and CPR during overdoses.
- Assisting with unit restoration after move-outs, including cleaning and light maintenance.
- Maintaining Avivo Village’s commitment to harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and Housing First principles.
- Collaborating with team members and community partners to provide wraparound support for residents.
Qualifications
What You Offer
- A high school diploma or equivalent (a degree in a related field is a plus).
- At least two years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, or mental health challenges (lived experience is valued and may count toward experience).
- A strong understanding of harm reduction, mental health, and housing-first principles.
- Ability to de-escalate conflicts and respond to crises in a calm and supportive manner.
- Experience working in diverse and fast-paced environments.
- CPR certification (or willingness to obtain it upon hire).
