Responsibilities:

• Monitor staff compliance with policies, procedures, training expectations, and protocols.
• Assist in the investigation of accident, injury or other incidents requiring employee interviews and the preparation of statements.
• Training on treatment principals, including Behavioral Interventions, and generally assisting the Residential Coordinator as needed and requested.

AWARE’s activities & employment program specialist works closely with the activity & employment program coordinator (supervisor) in implementing individual support plans, assessing strengths and skills in daily living, and assisting individuals in identifying, developing, and participating in a variety of meaningful activities to increase functional independence.

AWARE’s activities & employment program specialist is responsible for the coordination of all associated activities, events, trips, and facilities to provide safe opportunities for learning and recreation and promote a healthy lifestyle. This position works with assigned residents, clients, colleagues, and community members to assure an individualized Personal Support Plan is written from a strength-based perspective which addresses all services needed to achieve goals and independence.

This includes working directly with residents, clients, colleagues, and community members in all natural environments by supporting the development of physical skills, cognitive/academic skills, self help skills, language/communication skills, social/emotional/coping skills and assisting in a variety of ways, including assessment, problem solving, prescriptive programs, resource referral and maintaining required documentation.

Requirements

Talents, skills, and abilities:

• At least three (3) years of experience is required and/or an associate degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field and minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in Human Services.
• Ability to, under AWARE’s Unconditional Care Philosophy, implement individual support plans with the knowledge of behavioral techniques, interventions, skill building techniques, and understanding of the emotional and behavioral needs of individuals diagnosed a developmental disability.
• Requires computer literacy skills, including the ability to navigate, record, and overall basic computer skills needed for performance-based software as well as an electronic medical records system.
• The Program Specialist must have the interpersonal oral and written communications skills to work as a team member, to make observations and to report them accurately, to learn resident care methods, and to follow oral and written instructions.
