Position Summary
The Quality Control Manager is responsible for the overall management, leadership, and direction of the QC Department. The incumbent will also be responsible for training and development of their subordinates.
Responsibilities
Directs and supervises QC Technicians and Quality Specialists
Develops processes and procedures to ensure we have consistent and repeatable testing methods to ensure the quality expectations of our customers
Upholds all quality expectations of Axalta, customers, and regulatory bodies
Ensures that all department equipment is kept in good working condition and is maintained and calibrated as per regulatory and company requirements
Manages all the timekeeping and disciplinary actions of the QC department
Works closely with other site management to ensure that the flow of product through the value chain is in working order
Works closely with on-site R&D to develop scale up of testing procedures and processes between both departments
Leads improvement programs and key activities from idea generation to realization and financial validation, using Lean methodology and other continuous improvement tools
Focuses improvement work on defect reduction and waste elimination to achieve productivity improvements, process capability / efficiency / optimization, and cycle time improvement.
Ensures responsibilities and controls are in place to sustain improvements, including support and ownership where improvements must be maintained
Leverages skills and develops others:
Assists in training / mentoring others in quality management and powder coating knowledge
Drives site uniformity in a product by process-oriented quality system using a comprehensive and integrated management approach
Conducts 2nd party audits and assessments with focus on improvements to meet customer needs while also strengthening our business.
Qualifications
5 years’ work experience; minimum 3 years of managerial experience working in a quality management role for a coatings manufacturer
Bachelor’s Science Degree (Chemical Engineering preferred)
Experience effectively leading change, and building and implementing multi-site improvement plans
Experience with facilitating Lean training events or Kaizen events
Ability to travel – domestic (less than 10%)
Demonstrated ability to work effectively on teams and lead teams
Change agent to drive continuous improvement
Effective in using data to make decisions
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to execute to a schedule
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Effective written and oral communication skills with all levels of employees
Capability to perform basic statistical analysis (knowledge & use of Minitab a plus)
Demonstrated capability with Excel and PowerPoint
Teamwork skills (leading meetings, teams, interpersonal skills, etc…)
SAP knowledge a plus
