You will manage two talented production groups (Paint & Powder Coating) that collaborate to put the finishing touches on innovative custom products for our clients. The departments utilize project specifications, drawings, and methods to promise client satisfaction. It is no small thing, as almost all projects run through the Finishing Department.The role requires a keen problem-solving ability and innate understanding of a variety of materials from foam to wood to metal to plastic. We use a range of liquid coatings, water-based and liquid-based from polyurethanes to wood stain. We also run the gamut with metal coatings, applying both powder and liquid including patinas. You must be committed to learning all aspects of our process and excel quickly. Feeling comfortable and confident working with people of all levels of the company, from the Finishers to the Project Managers to the Owner, is critical. But, with custom products, always come questions - you have to be willing to ask questions to succeed.You will estimate labor and material requirements for jobs in bid phase and that are active. You will coordinate the work schedule with department heads and Project Management to then direct the activities and assign resources in paint and powder. You should be comfortable monitoring project progress and forecasting future labor needs to complete the project on time within budget. To help in this endeavor, you will maintain job scheduling lists for each department and post hourly expectations for each job, then monitor clocked hours daily.Many years of experience will help you establish coating application standards for both liquid and powder. That knowledge and leadership ability will guide you to train and cross-train staff through demonstration in paint and powder coating methods and operation of equipment. You will also direct the R&D process for new projects. In the end, you are the inspector, ensuring quality control and that specifications are met. You’ll also be tasked with quality control of your team and will coordinate with HR to recruit, evaluate performance, handle employee relations issues, and terminate employees.Understanding of the bigger picture will help you manage and order stock of paint/powder/abrasives inventory and bill each job that is pulled from liquid stock. You will oversee maintenance of all finishing department tools and equipment, working closely with the Operations department.You will work in a fast-paced, demanding environment that requires adaptability and flexibility to accommodate the needs of our clients, the industry, and the company.The position may on occasion require odd hours, weekend work, night shifts, and off-hours communication to be successful.The ability to collaborate effectively with team members and quickly adapt to change will be essential for success in the role.The RewardThis position includes a competitive compensation and benefits package, 401k and Roth investment options, 10 days of accrued PTO in year one and 20 days of accrued PTO in year two and beyond, in addition to paid holidays.
