Behavioral Health Technician Walk-In Center- Regional Crisis Center - Montrose, CO

  • Active BLS, a current TB result and proof of Flu vaccination (OCT-MAR) WILL BE REQUIRED to attend New Employee Orientation. If you are the successful candidate, further information regarding these requirements will be available during the interview and onboarding process.

Position Summary: We are seeking a Behavioral Health Technician who provides initial triage for patients needing assistance or experiencing crisis. The Behavioral Health Technician answers calls coming into the Walk-In Center ensuring positive communication and collaboration with community partners. Behavioral Health Technician is an integral part of the crisis team, providing quality care and intervention to the community.

Our ideal candidate for our Behavioral Health Technician position will have a high school diploma or equivalent, current Drivers License, ability to be commercially insured and maintain a driving record that allows insurability. A bachelors degree and experience in the 12 Step recovery, 1-2 years experience in mental health or medical fields, CAT or CAS certification are preferred.

Salary: Starting pay is $18.50 (Based pay $17.50 $1.00 Locale Differential = $18.50) and ranges up to $20.10 per hour which includes a $1.00 locale differential at our Montrose worksites and considers preferred experience and preferred education described.

Physical demands: Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employees are frequently required to walk, sit, stand, or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. Must have ability to sit for longer periods at a computer. Employees must be able to travel between Axis Health System locations. Possible potential exposure to communicable disease. Required Skills:

  • Support and promote the well-being of our community members with substance abuse issues in a safe, non-threatening, non-medical setting.
  • Provides resources and information about programs available within Axis Health System for all community members.
  • Functions as crisis intervention specialist and evaluates and implements a response plan for patient emergencies.
  • Facilitate patient participation in their service plan through individual interactions providing emotional support, resources, and advocacy.
  • Monitors and supports clients with program rules, guidelines and directives while they participate in treatment.
  • Observes patient behavior to identify change or additional needs and shares those observations with designated staff.
  • Functions as crisis intervention specialist and evaluates and implements a response plan for patient emergencies.
  • Maintains professional and supportive communication with families and other patient support systems.
  • Attends and participates in regular supervision and staff meetings and evaluation of client progress.
  • Refers and links patients to community resources to maximize client functioning, acting as advocate to provide support when needed.
  • Ability to work with outside agencies in managing client care.
  • Medication administration for patients in withdrawal.
  • Accept and document payments for withdrawal management stays.
  • Ability to transport clients and pick up meals as needed.
  • Must be always committed to confidentiality and exercise careful judgment to ensure the privacy and welfare of those with whom we work and those we serve.
  • Incorporates integrated care strategies for treating the whole person.
  • Demonstrates competency using Electronic Clinical Record and responding to alerts.

Other Duties/Responsibilities/Functions

  • Maintains clinical and other operational records as required.
  • General housekeeping duties include but are not limited to sweeping, mopping, making beds, and wiping down surfaces.

Additional requirements: Annual Flu immunization, Annual TB screening, CPI training within 90 days of hire, BLS certification, QMAP (Qualified Medication Administration Personnel) required. Continued employment in position is contingent upon satisfactory completion of various required training including but not limited to the following: Hepatitis, Infectious Disease.
