Peer Specialist – Full Time – RCC-Montrose, Montrose, CO

Position Summary: The role of the Peer Specialist is to provide emotional support and advocate effective recovery-based services for our clients. The ideal Peer Specialist will support clients, therapist and team members during evaluations and assist with client’s stabilization, providing support for clients in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy, stigma busting and assisting clients in regaining control over their recovery process. They will assist with connecting clients to community resources and support the families of adults, children and youth in navigating these systems.
Our ideal candidate for our Peer Specialist position will have a high school diploma, or equivalent, a bachelor’s degree is preferred. The candidate will also have lived experience and must be, or have been a client of mental health services, or is or has been a caretaker of minor child that has received mental health services.
Knowledge of behavioral and health issues as well as strategies which contribute to wellness.
Experience and/or interest in providing peer support to patients within our 5 county areas.
Salary: Starting at $18.50 (Starting $17.50 locale differential $1.00 = $18.50) - $20.60 per hour (non-exempt - hourly) and considers preferred experience and preferred education described above.

Physical demands: Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand, or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. Must have ability to sit for longer periods at a computer. Employee must be able to travel between Axis Health System locations. Possible potential exposure to communicable disease. Required Skills:
- Peer Support Specialist is a person who has progressed in their own recovery and is willing to self-identify as a peer and work to help others with chemical dependency or a mental disorder. Because of their life experience, such persons have expertise that professional training cannot replicate.

- Knowledge and ability to operate standard office equipment including scanner, computer, calculator, copy machine, fax and multi-line telephone.
- Working knowledge of Windows based computer applications including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and ability to access the internet.

Additional eligibility requirements: Annual Flu immunization, Annual TB screening, CPI training within 90 days of hire, BLS PRO certification required within 90 days of hire.
