Position Summary
This role is part of the team concept in this Clinic, which is devoted to the delivery of primary care in an ambulatory setting with emphases on prevention and health maintenance. Assist the nurses and clinical staff in performing their duties and carrying on the necessary functions required in accordance with established policies and procedures.
This role functions as part of the AXIS multidisciplinary healthcare team in providing care to patients.
Certified Medical Assistant preferred but Certified Nursing Assistant and International Medical Graduate encouraged to apply.
Job Description
- Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries
- Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the provider by obtaining their medical information and measure their vital signs, weight and height; confirming purpose of visit
- Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations;
- Maintains safe, secure and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Ability to relate to the public regardless of racial, ethnic and economic status.
- Assists Providers during the day: Lab orders, Creating/Printing MIIC, helps during exams by gathering any paper work the provider may need at the time of visit (i.e. imaging reports if not already in chart).
- Prepares female and male exam trays and sets up wound/laceration tray for the provider
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping compliant with HIPAA rules and regulations; understands the importance of HIPAA compliance.
- Performs CLIC Waived laboratory test
- Administers medications on the premises as directed by provider
- When instructed by the provider, calls the pharmacy for prescriptions and/or prescription refills and performs EKG on patient
- When required changes dressing and removes sutures
- Sterilizes equipment and instruments; documenting the result
- Coordinates the disposal of biohazard materials and contaminated supplies by using practicing standard precautions
- Stocks exam rooms with supplies.
- Clean exam-rooms between patients
- Answers telephone calls and retrieves voicemail
- Upon request faxes medical records to patient and/or other facilities
- Scan, index, and file patient medical records
- Back-up to Patient Referral Specialist by assisting patients with obtaining appointments to specialist; contacts specialty service providers as needed.
- Schedule follow-up appointments
- Obtains insurance information; may require verification by contacting insurance companies
