AXIS Insurance – Summer Intern

Job Description:
Summer Internship (9- week)
This nine -week internship program provides qualified students with the opportunity to:
- Gain hands-on experience in the Excess and Surplus lines Property and Casualty insurance underwriting process.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of risk assessment and underwriting guidelines.
- Build valuable professional relationships with experienced underwriters and brokers.

The intern will assist experienced underwriters in evaluating potential risks for E & S Property and Casualty insurance policies by analyzing submission data, conducting research, assist with preparing quotes, and communicating with brokers to gather necessary information, all while learning the fundamentals of underwriting guidelines and risk assessment within the Excess and Surplus Lines P&C insurance industry.
Responsibilities
- Gain exposure to all aspects of Property & Casualty Specialty underwriting.
- Assist experienced underwriters in evaluating potential risks for E & S Property and Casualty insurance policies by analyzing submission data, conducting research, assist with preparing quotes, and communicating with brokers to gather necessary information, all while learning the fundamentals of underwriting guidelines and risk assessment within the Excess and Surplus Lines P&C insurance industry.
- Participate in broker networking and team-building activities.
- Receive extensive hands-on training from the Underwriting team, covering pipeline generation, analysis, underwriting decision-making, actuarial pricing, and negotiations.
- Learn underwriting systems, processes, and account setup, along with key fundamentals of Property, General Liability, Auto Liability, and Excess Casualty Specialty business.
- Assist with research and provide information to the team, gaining an understanding of E&S Property & Casualty Specialty business.
- Collaborate with other interns and underwriting trainees on group activities.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Actively completing area of study in Liberal Arts, Insurance & Risk Management, Economics, Business, Communications, Finance, Mathematics, Law or relevant program.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA or higher.
- College level - current Sophomore or Junior student.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Entrepreneurial spirit along with the desire to be a continuous learner.
- Team player who collaborates effectively.
- Self-starter who can work independently and deal effectively with multiple tasks/priorities in a fast-paced environment.
