QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
High school diploma (minimum)
Must be able to meet Highly Qualified Status (2 years of college or passing grade on the Para Pro Test)
Strongly recommended:
Associates Degree/experience (or higher) in classroom settings
Experience in special education classroom settings *
REPORTS TO
Building Administrator(s): Principal, Director of Special Education & Student Services.
Under supervision of teacher/therapist to which assigned and works with members of the student’s support team
JOB GOALS
The Special Education Paraprofessional functions as an Instructional Paraprofessional with additional responsibilities to include differentiated instruction, behavior management, and/or applied behavioral analysis under the direct supervision of the teacher or team.*
The Instructional Paraprofessional works under the direct supervision of the teacher, team and administrator. The Instructional Paraprofessional works with the teaching staff to maintain a clean, safe and efficient classroom environment that is conducive to learning. The Paraprofessional must work with the student to facilitate inclusion opportunities within the regular education classroom.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures confidentiality in regard to all student information
Reads and understand the Individual Education Program (IEP) for the student in your charge*
Must be willing and able minimally to lift 35 lbs. and assist with personal care activities (i.e., toileting, feeding, mobility).
Has the ability to learn and use assistive technologies.
Must work closely with Speech and Language and Occupational Therapists to learn skills necessary to support student learning and growth.
Supports the social/emotional and educational development of students
Ensures that safety is maintained throughout the day in relation to student, peers and other staff
Assists with routine classroom clerical and maintenance activities
Implements behavior management programs if needed
Performs general classroom duties as directed by classroom teacher
Performs lunch, transportation and recess duties as assigned
Implements inclusive activities, teacher-planned lessons as directed by the classroom and/or special education teacher
Communicates student issues and concerns to teacher/team members
Maintains a professional attitude and relationship with all staff
Assists teachers in meeting IEP requirements
Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth, attend professional development opportunities as required *
Collects data or additional assessment information as requested *
Other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor

School calendar year
Compensation according to contract
Evaluation annually by school administration in consultation with the classroom teacher

Start date: April 7, 2025, or sooner for training purposes.
