B.E.S.T. VETS Animal Hospital (BVAH) is a multi-doctor practice willing to offer a mentorship program to pre-veterinary or veterinary technician students. This would be a position offered as a "student externship- shadow volunteer" opportunity to the right candidate(s), with the potential of future employment, pending demand and if the candidate is a good fit to our close knit team!

We understand how hard it is for someone interested in the veterinary hospital setting as a career to get "their foot in the door" without any experience. Because of this, we are willing to invest time mentoring someone that is self-motivated, detail oriented and dedicated to providing quality care to our patients/clients with great customer service and technical skills. Applicant must be a modest and humble team player that is loyal to the field and willing to invest their time into being dedicated to learning and growing within the field at a beginner level.

We aim to exceed each pet owner’s expectations, which includes making them part of the BVAH family. Because of this we are looking for a personable plus highly professional "student extern shadow volunteer" to join us in delivering such things on a daily basis.

A "student extern shadow volunteer" can become the “face of the place- first and last impression” for a client’s experience. The "student extern shadow volunteer" would be expected to assist in setting the tone for the practice as we build and maintain each owner’s and their pet’s trust and confidence in our abilities.

Specific Student Extern Expectations and Requirements* , include by not limited to:

(*initially no handling of patients or personal one-on-one client interactions will occur for several months or longer and a senior staff member will always oversee any patient or client interactions with guidance/mentorship as long as the individual is in a "Student Extern Shadow Volunteer")

· With strict mentorship: Assisting in customer service functions, including, greeting visitors, answering telephones, recording weights on pets and guiding clients and their pets to exam rooms.

· With strict mentorship: Assisting in scheduling and confirming appointments.

· With strict mentorship: Assisting in placing outbound calls for follow-ups and reaching out to prospective clients.

· With strict mentorship: Assisting in presenting and explaining service prices in accordance to BVAH’s set policies, including processing payments.

· With strict mentorship: assisting in recommending, client educating, selecting, and obtaining products and services, including prescriptions; under specific BVAH policies and the direction of a veterinarian.

· With strict mentorship: Answering questions, but not giving uneducated medical advice, regarding products and services, including educating clients on general animal husbandry and non-medical pet care (i.e. heartworm prevention, housebreaking, and flea & tick control, etc.).

· With strict mentorship: Assisting with the management of medical records, charts, reports and correspondence/communications, plus becoming familiar with the practice management system used (Avimark).

· With strict mentorship: assisting with strict sanitary COVID cleaning protocols and overall hospital maintenance (including removal of animal wastes) and ensuring that facility is neat and clean at all times—both inside and outside.

· Plus other routine day-to-day student extern shadow volunteer tasks as needed or requested.

Responsibilities Summary:

Student Extern Shadow Volunteer applicant should be a quick learner who is open minded with the drive and hunger to learn more about the veterinary hospital setting. Being flexible, reliable, personable, patient and having great customer service skills with a positive attitude will be expected. A strong work ethic is a must, as we plan to invest time, plus resources into the individual, and would expect that the individual would equally be willing to invest themselves wholeheartedly into the hospital and always respect its concepts.

Position Includes:

Veterinary mentorship, flexible schedule when available, and we promote a healthy and fun “Family-like” working environment. Also, there may be room to advance into an employee/staff member position, pending demand and if the individual is a good fit for our hospital!

Physical Demands:

Work is generally performed in an office environment. Ability to sit for long periods of time, stooping, and bending to pick up 30 lbs or more.
