Reporting directly to the Dean, UNMC College of Medicine, Dr. Bradley Britigan, the Department Chair, Internal Medicine supports an environment that promotes innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship directed at providing clinical care, education, research, and outreach / advocacy programs of excellence while carefully balancing the missions of the College of Medicine and the health systems.
The Ideal Candidate
The Chair must be a compelling leader whose passion for the clinical, educational, and research missions energizes the faculty, learners, and staff, focusing their efforts on a strategic vision of excellence in all missions. Of particular importance is strong clinical leadership experience in an academic setting, along with the skill set to successfully recruit, think strategically, mentor, collaborate, and understand the ever-changing healthcare environment. Required is current board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine and academic credentials to qualify for appointment as Professor at the College of Medicine. Must possess, or be eligible for, an unrestricted medical license in Nebraska.
The Organization
The Department of Internal Medicine is comprised of 12 clinical divisions and has approximately 319 physicians and 21 PhD scientists comprising the faculty within the department. More than 200 residents and fellows annually train in UNMC’s more than 80 renowned residency and fellowship programs (20 in internal medicine). As part of its growth, UNMC is expanding its MD program to rural Nebraska in partnership with the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Nebraska Medicine, UNMC’s primary clinical teaching partner, serves metro Omaha and the broader region with more than 1,400 physicians across nearly 70 specialty and primary care health centers. Nebraska Medicine is nationally recognized in cardiology, neurology, and oncology. It has an international reputation for providing bone marrow and stem cell transplantation services. It’s home to one of the most reputable and well-known solid organ transplant programs in the country, performing thousands of heart, liver, kidney, pancreas, intestinal, and lung transplants. Nebraska Medicine is also a comprehensive Level 1 trauma center, providing 24 / 7 care to adult and pediatric patients.
