Construction Management Intern – Underground Utilities
Job Summary
The Intern will support all aspects of the construction process related to underground utility construction. This role offers hands-on experience in planning and project management of wet public and commercial utilities such as water mains, sewer, and sewer rehabilitation. The intern will support project managers and superintendents while learning industry standards and practices. The internship is for 12 weeks 5/19/2025 – 8/8/2025.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with project management teams and superintendents to plan, schedule, and manage projects and adhere to the contract documents
- Assist in the development of the work and site safety plans
- Review plans and specifications to determine material selection, procurement, and tracking
- Compile data to accurately produce change orders to ownership
- Work closely with project managers, superintendents, estimators, clients, subcontractors, and vendors in all aspects of the project.
- Adhere to safety procedures and standards to be maintained on-site, including trench safety, traffic control and environmental regulations
- Work closely with the project management team to compile and submit monthly billings to ownership.
Skills and Qualifications
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree or master’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field with a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Ability to work full-time during the summer
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to think critically
- Strong time management, and organization skills
- Proficient in Excel
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship experience in construction, engineering, or a utility-related field
- Familiarity with safety regulations and practices in construction or utility work
- Basic understanding of underground utility systems such as water, sewer, gas, electricity, or telecommunications
Work Environment
- The position involves both office-based tasks and site visits
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory when working on site (Hardhat, gloves and vest provided). Steel toed boots/shoes required.
