What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Youth Programs position at B5 Learning Center?
SUMMARY: The Director of Youth Programming provides direction and oversite for K-12 after school and out of school programs. This includes managing the budget and programs, reporting for grants, and coaching teaching staff. It also includes teaching and leading in the afterschool program. Summer hours could be reduced.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Create a welcoming environment that promotes learning and fun, and fosters positive relationships among all children, families, staff, and community members.
- Manage youth programming staff, enabling them to grow in their youth program roles; work to build an effective team.
- Guide the staff to develop effective positive classroom management practices.
- Manage the program budget.
- Manage grant reporting, including tracking attendance.
- Set the tone and guide the afterschool program. Plan activities and calendar with the cooperation of teaching staff.
- Work with the team to plan and supervise events and field trips.
- Recruit volunteers as teachers and presenters for classes.
- Supervise the work of Team Read staff and volunteers.
- Adhere to all center policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety, confidentiality, and child protection.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
- Other duties as requested and agreed upon.
Qualifications:
- BA in education or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with youth in an educational or afterschool setting required.
- Comfortable working cross-culturally.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Proficient computer skills, comfortable using Microsoft office suite.
- Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Commitment to the mission of B5.
