What are the responsibilities and job description for the Proposal Engineer position at Babcock Power?
Position Summary: The range of the Proposal Engineer encompasses a full breadth of TEi product lines including Condenser, Feedwater Heaters, Moisture Separator Reheaters, Industrial Coolers, Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers for Power & Process and Specialty Heat Exchangers. This individual is responsible for the proposal level design of TEi products and completion of all technical proposal documents. The Proposal Engineer will actively participate in sales strategy to help achieve Sales objectives, margins, and technical deliverables. Essential Responsibilities:
- Review customer specifications and incorporate pertinent technical items into design and flag exceptions and clarifications for communication to the client.
- Provide/review an optimized/cost effective thermal and mechanical design which meets the customer specification and TEi design standards.
- Create Estimating and Global Sourcing packages used to develop cost.
- Interface with Estimating, Global Sourcing, Sales, Manufacturing, Quality and Engineering peers and management to provide technical exceptions and clarifications to the RFQ specifications.
- Issue vendor RFQ’s for Engineered items.
- Technically Evaluate quotations from Vendor/Sub Contractors.
- Complete/review technical proposal and respective documents in accordance with proposal development process.
- Complete/review technical and commercial proposal for budgetary and firm RFQs.
- Modify/review technical proposal in response to amendments, customer clarifications and/or management direction.
- Assist with conforming contracts by negotiating final technical items. Job Requirements / Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mechanical or Chemical Emphasis
- 0-3 years of Engineering or Technical Sales experience in Power or O&G markets
- ASME BPV Code Section VIII-1 Pressure Vessel and/or Heat Exchanger Design
- Must possess creativity/adaptability to implement successful bidding strategies and problem-solving techniques in a fast-paced Sales environment.
- Ability to schedule, manage, prioritize, and execute assignments with accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
- EIT or PE license is a plus.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
- HTRI or other industry recognized thermal design software.
- CAD (Autocad, Solidworks, Inventor)
- Compress or PV Elite (ASME BPV Code Calc software)
