Job Summary: Back Roads Food Co is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager to join our team. This individual will oversee all aspects of food safety, quality assurance, and compliance with certifications required for our operations. The role is crucial in ensuring that our products meet and exceed regulatory and customer expectations.
Essential Job Functions:
Food Safety Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive food safety program in compliance with FDA, USDA, VOF, and other relevant regulations.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to food safety protocols.
- Lead the development and execution of the HACCP plan, including monitoring critical control points.
- Respond to food safety incidents, including investigating root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Quality Control
- Establish and maintain quality control standards for all stages of production, packaging, and distribution.
- Conduct routine testing and inspections of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods.
- Analyze quality data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for optimization.
- Collaborate with production, packaging, and shipping teams to resolve quality issues and enhance processes.
Certifications and Compliance:
- Maintain and manage all business certifications, including but not limited to Organic, Non-GMO, Kosher, Detox Project certifications.
- Coordinate certification audits and manage relationships with certifying bodies.
- Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation for all certification requirements.
- Stay informed on regulatory changes and ensure compliance with new standards.
Training and Development
- Train employees on food safety and quality control standards, ensuring company-wide compliance.
- Develop training materials and conduct regular refresher courses to reinforce best practices.
- Maintain schedules and documentation of staff trainings and certifications.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and present reports on food safety and quality metrics to management.
- Support product recalls or withdrawals, if necessary, by managing documentation and coordination.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food safety, quality control, or a related role.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations (e.g., FSMA, FDA, USDA).
- Experience managing certifications such as organic or non-GMO.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and quality management software.
- Certification in HACCP or SQF is highly desirable.
