OVERVIEW:
The Inventory Control position plays a critical role in ensuring the success of Bailey's bareroot product line. Based in Hastings, MN, this full-time, year-round role offers a unique blend of independent fieldwork and cross-functional collaboration, making it ideal for someone who thrives both outdoors and in a team environment.
As a key player in tracking plant counts, monitoring crop development, and maintaining variety accuracy, this position directly supports inventory decisions that shape production and sales. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtain plant counts and estimated sizes for all bareroot production fields.
- Monitor crop development across Minnesota farms; adjust estimates as needed.
- Utilize drone technology as part of crop monitoring and data collection efforts.
- Communicate variety, quantity, and size information accurately and timely to office inventory personnel.
- Identify and report potential variety mixes; work with propagation to ensure trueness to type.
- Learn grading standards and assisting warehouse with grade setting and inventory supply.
- Assist with answering questions regarding plant counts, sizes, and quality.
- During off-season, this position may be reassigned to a secondary location to fulfill various production requirements under alternate supervisory oversight.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- Strong knowledge of plant material, variety identification, and factors affecting crop growth, required.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English to coordinate effectively with inventory, production, and administrative teams.
- Basic computer and data entry skills; openness to learning and using tools like drones.
- Basic mathematical skills and attention to detail for accurate counts and estimates.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in the field while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to work weekends/extended hours as needed.
- Physical demands may include extensive periods of sitting or walking, some lifting, and potential exposure to extreme temperatures.
