Summary
Baker Furniture is currently seeking a Full-time Sewer with a strong foundation in sewing machine operation and techniques, particularly in dressmaking, pleats, and skirts for upholstered high-end furniture. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in sewing various panels and upholstery covers, including flat work and cushions, in preparation for upholstery. Experience in manufacturing and warehouse operations will be considered an asset. Additionally, strong communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with the sewing team and other departments.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proficient in dressmakers, pleats, and skirts.
- Unties bundle and removes seat pieces.
- Read ticket for fabric specifications
- Sew seat pieces together, attaching law label in center of seat.
- Removes arm panels from bundle, and sews arm panels as instructed, following notches and cut marks made by cutting machine.
- Applies pull strip to bottom and back of sewn arm panels.
- Removes inside back piece from bundle, and sews pull strip to bottom and both sides.
- Assembles cushion with pre-made boxing, attaching top first and matching as needed. Turns sewn pieces wrong-side-out and attaches bottom piece to finish cushion.
- If back cushion is included, assembles it in the same manner as the seat cushion (described above). If arm or throw pillow is included, sews welt to top and then joins pillows reverse to welt and top.
- Put ID tags in each boxing and throw pillows.
- Inspect work.
- After sewing is completed, turns all pieces right-side-out.
- Folds pieces neatly, ties into bundle and places in pick-up area of work table.
- Exercises care and follows the proper safety procedures to prevent injuries to themselves and their co-workers.
Qualifications
- A comprehensive knowledge of all elements involved in creating dressmakers, pleats, and skirts for upholstered furniture is essential.
- Proficiency in operating sewing machines and performing sewing tasks
- Knowledge of working with various materials(Ex. Leather, Velvet, Pattern, Flocked, Viscose, etc.)
- Experience in manufacturing or warehouse environments
These qualifications will be essential for success in the role of a Sewer.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 45 per week
