Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve MMU's organizational objectives and drive growth.
- Operational Oversight: Manage the day-to-day operations of the electric and water utilities, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
- Financial Management: Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting.
- Team Leadership: Lead and motivate a diverse team, fostering a positive work environment and promoting high performance.
- Policy Development: Establish and enforce policies to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and the City of Marshall.
- Innovation and Improvement: Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in service delivery and operational processes.
- Community Interaction: Engage with the community to understand their needs and expectations, fostering transparency and trust.
- Appointment and Supervision: Appoint and supervise senior staff, including department heads and managers.
- Budgeting and Financial Oversight: Develop and manage annual and long-range budgets, ensuring financial stability and sustainability.
- Rate Setting: Recommends rates for services, ensuring they are fair and competitive.
- Capital Projects: Oversee the development and construction of capital projects to enhance infrastructure and service delivery.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor and analyze performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and ensure high-quality service delivery.

- Salary: $154,724 to $208,635, depending on qualifications and experience.
- Deferred Compensation: Employer contribution of up to $2,500.
- Medical Insurance: Coverage equivalent to 90% of the employee-only medical insurance premium.
- Additional Benefits: Dental insurance, Basic Life, AD&D and Long-Term Disability and a Health Savings Account.
- Paid Holidays, Vacation and Sick Leave: As per MMU policies.
- Retirement: Public Employees Retirement Association (6.5% contribution – MMU 7.5% match)
- Relocation Expenses: Reimbursement is negotiable.
- A bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field required; an MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
- Minimum of five years in senior-level leadership and management roles, preferably within the utility industry or closely related sector, with a verifiable record of successful leadership, operational oversight, and results.
- Demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and financial acumen, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Profound understanding of utility leadership and management, industry trends, and best practices.
- Unquestionable commitment environmental stewardship, fiscal responsibility, and ethical business practices.
- Valid Minnesota driver’s license, or the ability to secure a Minnesota driver’s license.
