Position Overview
As a Structural Steel Welding Quality Inspector , you’ll play a vital role in ensuring that every weld and piece of fabricated steel meets our stringent quality standards. Working alongside skilled fabricators and welders, you'll ensure our projects meet all applicable codes, specifications, and industry standards, ensuring flawless execution on some of the most complex, high-profile commercial, bridge, and industrial projects.
What You'll Be Doing
- Inspection & Quality Control : Perform dimensional and visual inspections of fabricated steel, including welds, final paint, and weld preparations.
- Ensure Compliance : Ensure all materials and welds meet contract requirements, drawings, and applicable codes (AISC, AWS).
- Troubleshoot Issues : Identify discrepancies, defects, and quality issues during the fabrication process, and coordinate with the team to resolve them.
- Documentation & Reporting : Maintain detailed records of in-process inspections and final quality assurance checks for production control.
- Collaborate & Support : Work closely with shop personnel, foremen, and customer inspectors to resolve quality issues, and provide guidance on code and specification interpretations.
- Drive Improvement : Contribute to ongoing improvements in processes, materials, and weld techniques to ensure consistently high-quality output.

Experience : At least 3 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, or a related field.Certifications : AWS-CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) preferred; SCWI or CAWI certifications a plus.Technical Skills : Expertise in welding standards, structural drawings, and the ability to use tools such as tape measures, weld gauges, and levels.Code Knowledge : Familiarity with AISC, AWS Structural Welding Codes, and RCSC guidelines for bolted connections.Attention to Detail : You must have a sharp eye for detail to spot any flaws, defects, or inconsistencies.Problem-Solving : Ability to identify issues, analyze problems, and develop solutions quickly and effectively.Teamwork : Ability to collaborate with fabricators, engineers, and foremen while being a dependable part of the team.Physical Stamina : Must be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 75 lbs regularly.Job Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalentMinimum of 3 years of related experience (vocational training may substitute for 1 year of experience)Certification or training in welding inspection or related areas (AWS-CWI or SCWI preferred)Strong communication skills for working with diverse teamsAbility to interpret structural steel blueprints, technical documents, and safety proceduresMust be able to work in an environment that involves loud noise, heat, fumes, and exposure to hazardous materials—PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required at all times.Physical Demands
Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and squat regularlyMust be able to lift up to 75 lbs and occasionally push / pull up to 200 ft-lb of forceVision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perceptionWork Environment
