Work Location: Hybrid - This position can be a hybrid telecommute position after an initial training period and after the candidate has successfully shown they understand and can manage all position responsibilities.
Short Description/Overview:
Reporting to the Director of HR, assist in administration of benefit programs and leaves of absences. Assist in the administration of other areas of HR as assigned.
Success in this role includes the following essential functions, knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Essential Job Duties:
- Assist in administration of company medical benefits, including but not limited to, auditing invoices, coordinating with Finance for payment, reviewing/processing employee benefit enrollments and qualifying life event changes, act as point of contact for benefit brokerage firm
- Assist in benefit plan setups in HR systems
- Assist staff with Open Enrollment
- Conduct benefit meeting with new hires at the executive offices every 2 weeks for new hire orientation
- Assist with administration of company retirement plan, including but not limited to, funding accounts bi-weekly after payroll processing, notifying employees of plan entry as employees become eligible, and entering new hires into retirement system
- First point of contact for benefit, leave and retirement related questions.
- Act as the liaison between vendors, brokers, and internal staff to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
- Support the internal wellness program.
- Assist in coordination of Leaves of Absence in accordance with state and federal law - FMLA, CFRA, PDL, ADA, and other laws as applicable
- Ability to be backup for payroll processing
- Ability to learn, grow and help in other areas of HR based on your past experience and knowledge
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- A combination of education and relevant experience is required, with experience considered as a substitute for formal education where applicable
- Minimum 1-year experience in benefits
- Minimum 1-year leaves of absence
- Minimum 2 years working in HR in the state of California
- Excellent communication and customer service
- Ability to work independently and be a self-starter
- Ability to be flexible and work around changing company priorities and projects
- Desire to work in a team-oriented workplace and collaborate with all HR team members and other internal staff
Great to have but not required:
- Understanding of legal language
- Healthcare industry experience
- Understanding of general business practices
- HR Certification
- Experience processing payroll in the state of California, or ability to learn and be backup team member
Pay Range: $32/hour and up, depending on experience

- Travel to other sites located within Southern California may be required (less than 5% travel)

Physical Demands
Physical requirements may vary slightly and should be reviewed with your manager. In general, this position requires the ability to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted; ability to stand for extended periods of time and to perform repetitive stooping, walking, stretching, reaching and some sitting; ability to use full range of body motions required to lift patients, wear a lead apron, and lift and move supplies. Must be able to safely ascend and descend stairs as a core part of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, when no elevator or lift is present.

Use of appropriate personal protection measures is required for every healthcare provider in these positions. Require to routinely use standard office equipment such as laptop, computer, mouse, and photocopier.

Beginning in 1973, Balboa has grown from two physicians to a comprehensive nephrology team of 52 board certified physicians and 8 advanced practitioners. On January 1, 2018, Balboa Nephrology Medical Group (BNMG) launched Balboa United, a full-service medical practice management services organization. From one small office, BNMG now has 24 clinical offices throughout San Diego, Imperial, Orange and Riverside counties. In addition to office and hospital-based patient care, Balboa physicians manage the dialysis treatments of approximately 4,500 patients at 88 dialysis centers and conduct Nephrology based clinical research at 6 centers throughout Imperial and San Diego counties (California Institute of Renal Research).
