Job Roles
- Determine eligibility for various leave types requested by employee (e.g., family medical leave, bonding leave, and temporary disability leave), and provide employees with required timely notice.
- Certify and deny FMLA, WC FMLA, CFRA, PDL, USERRA and other leaves according to regulations.
- Interpret applicable laws and coordinate with state and federal laws.
- Counsel employees and supervisors concerning qualifications of leave and related employee benefits.
- Provide accurate information to employees such as proper PTO / ESI / PSL application in relation to coordinating State Disability Insurance or Paid Family Leave benefits on absences such as deductions from pay, medical certification requirements, return-to-work dates, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
- Counsel employees on continuing health benefits while on leave and collection of benefit premiums.
- Verify all medical documentation and FMLA Certification forms, and understand information contained; may require communication with physician's office to clarify content.
- Maintain continuous contact with employees on leave and coordinate all aspects of restrictions for work, Fitness for Duty certifications, and Return to Work guidance.
- Liaison with employee and LTD carrier to ensure timely assessment and filing of LTD claim with carrier on behalf of employee.
- Liaison with supplemental benefit carrier in filing appropriate claims and completing required forms on behalf of employer and employee.
- Work cooperatively with HR Service Center and the payroll department to process and coordinate all employee leaves of absence.
- Maintain employee leave records which include confidential medical information in accordance with federal and state laws, and company policies and procedures.
- May work with employee relations in developing return to work strategies or accommodations under the ADA or ADAAA, when necessary.
- Produce and manage reporting metrics and analytics for all leaves.
- Perform all other duties as assigned within the scope of benefit plan administration.
