POSITION GUIDE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Position Title: Assistant Head Senior High Football Coach (Teaching position to be determined)
Contract: Based on assignments and approved salary schedule
Salary: Certified Salary Schedule
Primary Function:
Position is responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the football program and conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques. Must comply with all District policies related to certified personnel. Assignment can be changed based on District need and license of employee.
Illustration of responsibilities and key job duties:
Assist the head coach with instructing students in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.
Assess student’s skills, monitor students during competition and practice, and keep the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
Assist with determining game strategy.
Assist the head coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition.
Follow established procedures in the event of an injury.
Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators.
Maintain the equipment room in orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security.
Distribute equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach.
Assist the head coach with submitting a list of award winners at the end of the season.
Participate in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
Attend staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
Model non discriminatory practices in all activities.
Special Assignments:
The assistant coach may be assigned other duties relevant to his/her coaching assignment not specifically listed in this position guide. The assistant coach will be required to obtain and maintain a valid CDL license and drive the bus to many of the athletic events.
Organizational Relationships:
The assistant coach will report to the Head Coach, Director of Athletics and Extracurricular Activities, and Building Principal. Coaching must be viewed as a professional responsibility and all duties of the coaching assignment must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the Arkansas Activities Association, Bald Knob Public Schools Student Handbook, and school board policies.
Position Holder Qualifications:
The assistant coach will hold a valid Arkansas teaching license for the specific teaching assignment or be compliant with Arkansas law/regulation that allows for completing required license with an endorsement in Coaching 7-12. A coach that does not meet Arkansas licensing requirements will result in termination or nonrenewal to protect the school/district accreditation. Coaching assignment is secondary to the teaching assignment and required licensure.
Some experience as an assistant football coach at the high school or college level preferred. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Must possess some knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
Employee Evaluation:
The assistant coach will be evaluated according to District policy and Arkansas law for certified employees and District evaluation according to athletic coaching responsibilities.
