POSITION GUIDE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Position Title: Head Senior High Cheerleader Coach (Teaching position to be determined)
Contract: N/A
Salary: Per Certified Stipend Schedule
Primary Function: The Senior High Cheerleader Coach is responsible for coaching student athletes in competitive Cheerleader techniques to prepare them for events or competition. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.

Works with cheerleaders during practices and meets
Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages students to participate
Assesses skills and assigns team positions
Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development
Works with the athletic director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition
Coaches and instructs cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
Observes cheerleaders, during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of students at all times
Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met
Follows established procedures in the event of an injury
Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of their student
Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the program
Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators
Acts as a team representative and promotes the cheerleading by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations
Follows established procedures for supplies and uniforms
Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season
Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies
Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records
Models non discriminatory practices in all activities
Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance
Follows established procedures for fundraising and receipting/depositing funds
Special Assignments: The Senior High Cheerleader Coach may be assigned other duties relevant to his/her assignment not specifically listed in this position guide.
Organizational Relationships: The Senior High Cheerleader Coach will report to the Athletic Director while also responding to building administrators and the Superintendent.
Position Holder Qualifications: The Senior High Cheerleader Coach must meet the following AAA qualifications:
- Licensed Teacher:
- Regularly employed and paid by the local board of education for professional duties which shall be for a minimum of three regular class periods or equivalent time each day. Assignment to a professional education duty other than a classroom teaching assignment all or part of the required three periods is permissible, but such assignment does not excuse a coach from the licensure required as a teacher.
- Currently AACCA Safety Certified – 4-year certification, renewable by retaking the course.
- Successfully complete the NFHS Coaches Education online courses – Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid, Health and Safety for Coaches, Fundamentals of Coaching Cheer and Dance
- AAA state rules exam.
- Certification – CPR (recertification as required)
- Certification – AED – (Automatic External Defibrillator) – (re-certification as required)
- Complete the AAA Heat Illness training.
- Complete the AAA Concussion Training
- Complete the AAA Communicable Disease Course.
- Complete the online Spirit Rules Meeting under own username; login and verify online.
- Those meeting these criteria can be paid a stipend for coaching.
- Licensed Teacher with ADE Coaching Endorsement:
- Regularly employed and paid by the local board of education for professional duties which shall be for a minimum of three regular class periods or equivalent time each day. Assignment to a professional education duty other than a classroom teaching assignment all or part of the required three periods is permissible, but such assignment does not excuse a coach from the licensure required as a teacher.
- Currently AACCA Safety Certified – 4-year certification, renewable by retaking the course

- Complete the online Spirit Rules Meeting under own username; login and verify online C. Registered Volunteer – Employed by the school district, not as a licensed teacher (ex.: aide, tutor, secretary, bookkeeper, study hall supervisor, cafeteria worker, etc.)
Employee Evaluation: The Senior High Cheerleader District will be evaluated according to District policy and Arkansas law.
