Baldwin Youth Services seeks qualified applicants for an immediate fill for our Assistant Director of Community Corrections Position. Baldwin Youth Services, Inc. (BYS) operates 2 Community Based Corrections Facilities housing up to 16 youth. BYS has been in operation for over 45 years and has worked in collaboration with Baldwin County Juvenile Court and other community service providers since the organization’s inception in 1977.
As Assistant Director, you will play a crucial role in leading and growing our community corrections and parent training programs while ensuring efficiency and best practices are implemented and/or enhanced. We are looking for a result-oriented individual that is motivated to meet the very complex needs of children and families, remove barriers to care, and create/build/improve systemic programming to reduce recidivism in children and families. Your exceptional skills in the provision of services to youth and families, abilities to develop and maintain community partnerships, program coordination, crisis management, operations management, and strong leadership skills will be instrumental in driving our community corrections services forward to fulfill of our mission. Incumbent will directly supervise up to 8 staff members and oversee residential care services for up to 16 juvenile court involved youth.
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in the field of social work, psychology, administration, criminal justice, or related field AND a Masters Degree in the field of social work, psychology, community counseling, mental health counseling, or marriage and family therapy. The highest level of licensure associated with degree is preferred but not required. A minimum of 3 years successful full-time, paid employment providing mental health, community, prevention, acute, residential, or social services to families and children is required for this position. Applicant must be able to pass a criminal background check once hired and must be able to obtain clearance through the Alabama Central Registry for child abuse and neglect. Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving history. Many of our youth and/or parents speak English as a second language, so bi-lingual applicants are encouraged.
Applicant must have good communication skills and be able to work well with staff, juvenile probation officers, family members, and other community service providers in order to assure that the best interests of the children are served. Applicant must be able to engage in a positive, but firm manner with our staff and youth and have great skill in managing people. Applicant must have basic Microsoft Office Suite computer skills, must be able to manage paperwork, and must be thorough with documentation.
Job Description:
The Assistant Director will direct and oversee all community corrections operations within Baldwin Youth Services and will be the main point of contact for Community Corrections/Juvenile Probation services. The Assistant Director’s duties include, but are not limited to: supervising the staff and general operations of the 2 homes; establishing and maintaining lines of communication with parents, various community service organizations, court officials, and local law enforcement agencies; providing support, purpose, and direction for child intervention workers/house parents; operate as part of a team; conducting staff meetings regarding policies, procedures, and other training matters; maintaining knowledge of State licensing standards, operating policies, and personnel policies; intervening with youth who have been placed at the facility and effectively dealing with the youth and their parents/guardians/family as to prepare them for reentering his/her home and community; completing intake psychosocial assessments for new residents, supervising and/or delegating our parenting class; supervising and/or delegating weekly groups; offering family therapy as need for residents in crisis and/or those preparing for discharge, referring youth and their family to outpatient therapy upon discharge to ensure continuity of care; interviewing and hiring of community corrections staff; attending monthly organization wide training, completing training to maintain professional licensure in accordance with State licensing Board if applicable; being on an on call rotation with other BYS leadership for emergencies and other issues that arise within the group homes or BYS facilities; and working non-standard hours if/when needed.

Hours: Monday- Friday, 8am-430pm, 40.0 hours per week
Pay & Benefits: This is a full-time salaried position with a generous benefits package. Sick time and personal time are earned on a monthly basis. Position also provides a generous amount of paid holiday time off.
Assistant Director schedule will offer some shift variance and personal flexibility with the understanding that the position may occasionally require non-standard work hours. Assistant Director will operate with autonomy while reporting to the Executive Director. Pay: $47,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year Quarterly Cash Bonus Incentive Program
