What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Manager - Schools (25-26) position at Baltimore City Public School System?
Manages all business affairs and non-instructional administrative functions for assigned school(s). Responsibilities will include the general management of budget and financial operations, procurement and supplies, personnel, oversight of plant maintenance and cafeteria operations, student transportation, administration of use of school facilities, security and safety, records, and reports.
Essential Functions
- Serves as a member of the school leadership team and functions as a liaison on all matters related to the school financial and business activities.
- Prepares and manages budgets under the guidance and approval of the principal.
- Manages SAFbooks and internal accounts. Oversees the issuance of checks and verifies the deposit of monies.
- Establishes and maintains necessary records and internal controls. Prepares and maintains financial, business, and operational reports and required source materials.
- Manages the procurement of goods and services for the area office or school. Reviews and expedites the processing of purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and procurement contracts.
- Manages and maintains fixed asset inventory.
- Monitors position allocation and staffing reports to ensure consistency with budget. Assists Principal in addressing and resolving discrepancies with the Budget and Human Capital.
- Assists in the orientation of new staff to school operations.
- Oversees timekeeping and payroll functions for the school(s).
- Ensures the accurate maintenance of student records as assigned.
- Oversees the operation and maintenance of the physical plant and custodial services to ensure a clean and healthy environment for students and staff.
- May assist principals with the assignment of facilities during and after school hours.
- Assists in the preparation of grant applications and contractual services agreements.
- Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of school improvement plans and Master Plan initiatives.
- May coordinate the implementation of school technology plans to facilitate the expansion of learning technology.
- Provides guidance and instruction to support staff assigned to business / financial management tasks.
- Co-facilitates community budget forums with school leadership.
