What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trainer - Bus Drivers position at Baltimore City Public Schools?
Trains school bus drivers and school bus aides in driving and safety techniques.
- Designs training courses, materials and tests. Collects and assembles training materials. Recommends and implements modifications in training courses based on new state laws and regulations.
- Provides pre-service training to school bus drivers and school bus aides in driving and safety techniques and procedures as mandated by Federal and State laws.
- Conducts in-service training programs for annual school bus driver and school bus aide recertification.
- Investigates school bus accidents, prepares accident reports, and serves as a member of the Accident Review Committee.
- Functions as liaison with state and city driving and safety agencies.
- Operates audio-visual equipment.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned, including but not limited to functioning as a driver or aide on school runs, athletic and cultural trips, or other transportation requests as needed.
- Required to satisfactorily pass an annual Federal and State required physical examination.
- Meet all licensing requirements of the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration for school vehicle drivers, including commercial driver's license with the appropriate endorsements.
- Be compliant with all Federal and State requirements governing commercial school vehicle drivers.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Five years operating motor equipment and commercial driving experience.
- Maryland Class A or B Commercial or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license with passenger and school bus endorsements.
- Should have zero (0) points on their Motor Vehicle Administration record.
- Demonstrated knowledge of training principles and practices.
- Knowledge of Maryland vehicle operation laws.
- Ability to plan, develop and conduct training programs.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
