Examples of Duties
Under general supervision, plans, coordinates, supervises, and participates in the maintenance, construction and repair of athletic fields, parks, playgrounds, buildings, equipment, and other recreation and park facilities.
- Assigns, reviews and corrects the work of grounds maintenance employees and provides assistance when needed.
- Train staff on procedures, standards and techniques.
- Provides customer service on grounds maintenance issues for clients, both internal and external.
- Completes and submits Service Requests and Preventative Maintenance logs.
- Keeps time and material records.
- Assists with personnel paperwork and utilizes Human Resources application (Workday) as needed.
- Oversees, coordinates, and inspects work performed by private contractors.
- Performs site inspections of recreation and parks facilities. Ensure that playground and other equipment meets safety standards. Orders and plans for the delivery of parts and materials.

Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent;

Four years of experience in grounds maintenance or recreation and parks maintenance.
Additional education relevant to the duties of the position may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two years.
Age Requirement
Non-Maryland residents must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a commercial, class B Maryland driver's license is required at the time of application. Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a commercial, class A Maryland driver's license. (License may require endorsements and/or the absence of certain restrictions.)
Possession of a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations is required at the time of application.
All licenses and certificates must be maintained throughout employment.

Retirement
Employees are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.
Paid Leave
Sick Leave - Monthly sick leave earnings prorated based on the number of hours worked per week. No maximum on accrual. Accrued balance can be applied toward service credit at retirement.
Vacation Leave - Monthly vacation leave earnings prorated based on the number of hours worked per week. Earnings increase after five, ten and fifteen years of service generally.
Holidays - Part-time 30 to 39 hour non-merit or non-classified employees will generally be paid for ten holidays per calendar year. Other part-time, non-merit or non-classified employees working 29 hours per week or less will receive two paid holidays per calendar year. These holidays are the Christmas holiday and the Independence Day holiday.
