Under general supervision performs professional engineering work adhering to applicable codes and guidelines.
- Reviews for rejection or approval of architectural, structural, mechanical plans and specifications for large and small scale commercial and residential projects to ensure that specific requirements of the building code, mechanical code, life safety code, ADAAG (State Accessibility Code) and all codes required by Baltimore County have been complied with.
- Reviews commercial and residential building site plans to ensure compliance with building code setbacks, handicap parking, floodplain regulations, and fire department access in accordance with applicable code requirements and standards.
- Prepares correspondence, reports, and records as necessary in a clear and concise manor.
- Conducts meetings with professionals, owners, developers and consultants to explain, interpret, resolve and enforce building laws and county ordinances.
- Reviews and approves plans and specifications for public buildings and mechanical and HVAC systems.
- Provides approval and disapproval of building permits.
- Operates computers and peripheral equipment to perform GIS work.
- Communicates with County Constituents to provide guidance through the permitting process.
- Reviews construction plans and specifications to determine compliance with the Baltimore County Fire Prevention Code, Baltimore County Building Code, State of Maryland Fire Prevention Code, NFPA Codes and other standards and codes applicable to Baltimore County.
- Evaluate and reviews sprinkler systems, fire line installations, construction materials, mechanical devices, chemical, gas, flammable liquid installations, and fire protection equipment for compliance with fire code requirements.
- Provides guidance for Baltimore County Constituents through the permitting process.
- Conducts fire protection field inspections to resolve difficult or complex code issues.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Bachelor's degree in engineering
Plus
Two years' field or office engineering experience.
(Additional qualifying education beyond a bachelor's degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.) OR Possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training issued by a State within the United States of America, plus two years' field or office engineering experience.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.

Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications, and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable. EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.
The work of this classification is essentially sedentary, with occasional walking, standing, and other limited physical activities including travel to various work sites.
