Job Summary :
The Water Resources Engineer plays a crucial role in managing and protecting vital water resources, with a particular focus on wetlands and streams. This position involves engaging in diverse and impactful projects, including stream restoration, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, low impact development, wetlands mitigation design, FEMA map revisions, dam inundation studies, and floodplain studies.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Develops comprehensive design plans and technical drawings for stream restoration projects using natural channel design techniques
- Conducts thorough evaluations of stream health, including water quality testing, habitat assessments, and biodiversity surveys
- Supervises construction activities for stream restoration projects
- Performs detailed hydrologic analyses to evaluate watershed characteristics
- Analyzes the hydraulic performance of various drainage systems, using modeling techniques to assess flow capacities, flood risks, and system efficiency
- Creates detailed designs and drawings for wetlands mitigation projects
- Prepares and submits detailed requests for revisions to FEMA floodplain maps
- Conducts comprehensive studies of floodplain dynamics, assessing flood risks, evaluating potential impacts, and providing recommendations for floodplain management and zoning
- Prepares and submits permit applications under the Clean Water Act
- Performs dam break analyses to assess potential inundation zones in the event of a failure
- Creates clear and engaging presentations for public hearings and client reviews, effectively communicating project objectives, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders
- Conducts a variety of additional studies related to civil and environmental engineering, supporting interdisciplinary projects and providing expert insights
