What is the role of the Grading Division? The Grading Division is in the Construction Group. Our grading crews build the foundations for our projects. Our grading crews will build large commercial sites, widen highways and interstates, and work on special projects including building the new Hugh Leatherman Terminal for the SC Ports Authority, widening of Glenn McConnell Parkway, and other high profile roadway expansions.
What is a Grading Superintendent? The Grading Superintendent runs grading crews and ensures the project is properly planned, staffed, and equipped.
What you will get to do:
- In charge of the entire production cycle of the grading crew while on various Projects.
- Responsible for the interpretation of the construction drawings and specifications related to the Project.
- Coordinate all Project related activities, both internal and external, working with Survey crews, Paving crews, and Subcontractors.
- Provide input to the development and implementation of Project work plans.
- Perform engineering calculations, takeoffs, and quantity estimate as required.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of scheduling and cost controls.
- Act as the primary “on-site” client contact while managing the company’s relationship with Project owners.
- Direct crew members as to the proper procedures to build the job safely, on time and under budget.
- Coordinate the material and equipment requirements of the project, including subcontractor utilization, transportation, equipment and other groups to ensure the successful execution of the project.
- Work directly with the Grading Manager to ensure client needs are being met.
- Plan and implement construction means, methods, productivity innovations, and site logistics.
- Attend all Project related meetings for assigned Projects.
- Monitor job cost and productivity metrics.
