Description

Overview:

The Director of Technology and Innovation is a hands-on role responsible for transforming the organization’s technology and aligning with the Bank’s business strategy.  This role defines, designs and implements an optimal and efficient technology environment to provide a best-in-class customer and employee experience.  Key responsibilities include leading a team of skilled technologists and IT experts while fostering relationships with internal business units and industry connections.  This role will demonstrate strong vision, creativity and leadership to navigate the rapidly evolving business and technology landscape. 

Responsibilities:

  • Champion the use of disruptive technologies that yield financial benefits, provide competitive advantages or significantly enhance customer or employee experiences.
  • Identify innovative technology platforms, opportunities and solutions for developing and delivering the Bank’s products & services by understanding technology trends and applying them to the Bank.
  • Create and maintain the vision, strategy and roadmap for technology that supports the Bank’s strategic goals and promotes a culture of quality, speed, agility and innovation.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends and emerging technologies, as well as applicable financial services regulations and guidelines.
  • Develop and build a reliable, standardized data architecture that can be leveraged across for organization for data visibility and reporting.
  • Communicate the technology strategy to key stakeholders and provide input on decisions regarding new products, services and capabilities.
  • Lead, manage, and oversee projects related to: assessing business and technology processes and functional needs for the enterprise; designing and implementing the optimal mix of system components to support the functional needs; managing the system development/enhancement lifecycle’ from business and systems requirements analysis through development; testing, quality assurance, post-deployment support, managing a portfolio of internal controls around business processes, systems, and data.
  • Lead, manage and oversee the project management lifecycle from conception through completion that includes assessing business requirements, scoping and planning projects and initiatives, budgeting, forecasting, tracking, and reporting project status, managing deliverables, and assessing new product success.
  • Manage the product backlog (prioritization and refinement) and adjust scope based on evolving needs as well as maintaining transparency of project status.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project implementation
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships both internally and with 3rd party software vendors.
  • Partner with the Chief Operating Officer to develop a strategy and operating framework for managing critical technology vendor relationships.
  • Lead the technology group to create a culture of collaboration that emphasizes teamwork, accountability and a focus on internal and external customers.
  • Plan, document, and manage the performance of subordinate managers and/or staff. Conduct talent management activities including mentoring, training, or providing technical growth opportunities.

Key Results Areas:

  • Responsible for learning, understanding, and practicing required fraud prevention practice, BSA and OFAC compliance requirements.
  • Ensure that BankSouth adheres to all applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all customer files & associated information.
  • Assist examiners and auditors by providing required documentation.
  • Correct exceptions to issues found by examiners and auditors.

Qualifications


Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in liberal arts, finance, computer science or relevant work experience.
  • Experience in financial services technology preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proven track record of successfully moving complex bodies of work from concept to launch.
  • Experience with database structures, APIs, middle ware, robotic process automation and artificial intelligence programs.
  • Experience leading large digital transformation programs.
  • Ability and willingness to be “hands on” to support the technology team.
  • Experience managing an agile design-driven, user-centered product and development team supporting the delivery of web/mobile based commercial product(s).

Other Requirements:

Satisfactorily complete all required compliance training and compliance with all laws and regulations that apply based on the scope of this position.

Interpersonal Skills:

Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving and obtaining information, as well as advising or referring, which commonly require shorter discussions.

Physical Requirements:

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in an emergency. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.

Working Conditions:

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work environment with moderate noise.

Mental and/or Emotional Requirements:

Must be able to perform job functions independently and with limited supervision. Must work effectively as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be able to perform basic financial calculations with accuracy. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under stress of deadline, requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on confidential matters.
