What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Relations Ambassador - Solar Energy position at Bantam Communications?
Bantam Communications is seeking an energetic and action-oriented part-time Project Ambassador to build community support for a solar energy project in Montezuma County, Colorado. In this role, you will work with Bantam, the Development Manager of the Project, project supporters, landowners, community members, community organizations, key stakeholders, and elected officials to create positive community sentiment and help guide the Project through the governmental approval process. As the local representative of the project, you will be the most publicly visible and accessible member of the Project team and must be comfortable engaging people across a wide spectrum of engagements productively and professionally.
Responsibilities:
- Community Engagement: Engage on all Project organizing efforts locally (eg, meetings, open-houses, etc). Build and maintain positive relationships with supporters, landowners, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders in the Project area through meetings, calls, and other contacts. Present to groups, classes, and organizations. Make recommendations on strategy as necessary.
- Government Monitoring: Monitor county and municipal government proceedings related to renewable energy generally and the Project specifically. Professionally represent the Project and developer at business, local government, and community functions.
- Volunteer Organizing: Identify, recruit, and mobilize Project supporters to contact local elected officials or agencies, attend public meetings, and communicate Project benefits with community members in support of the Project.
- Office and Events Management: Ensure the local office is regularly staffed and kept in good condition, as applicable. Field public questions, comments, and concerns gathered and ensure answers are provided. Help plan and manage events as needed.
- Data Organization: Ensure all conversations & information gathered from outreach and engagement activities are entered and maintained in various databases and systems.
- Media Management and Relations: Monitor social and traditional media channels, especially hyper-local groups. Recruit authors and help draft letters of support for the Project. Assist with local media when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Well respected individual living in or near Montezuma County, Colorado.
- Reliable means of transportation.
- General knowledge of local politics and power dynamics.
- Commitment to renewable energy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience using various computer tools, including the Microsoft or Google suite.
- Comfortable being somewhat self-directed and working in a remote team environment
Rate of Pay: $25-50/hour depending on experience.
Hours: The ideal candidate will be able to work 20 hours per week. This is a 1099 position.
