POSTED ON 1/31/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/31/2025

The Company:

King Energy is a leader in rooftop solar and battery storage, serving commercial and industrial properties across the United States.

Powered by King Energy’s OneBill software platform and backed by significant venture capital and project financing investment, we deploy solar on commercial rooftops and provide the energy generated to both local tenants and members of the broader community.

Our goal is to generate financial value for commercial property owners, their tenants, and the broader community by engaging in rooftop leases that increase a property’s net operating income and by saving tenants and local residents money on their energy bills.

King Energy solar programs are deployed at no cost to property owners or their tenants, generating financial, social and environmental benefits to the property and to the community.

The Role:

As part of our growing regulatory affairs team, you'll navigate the complex web of federal, state, and local energy regulations that shape our business. From community solar programs to net metering tariffs, you'll be our expert on the rules and requirements that govern our operations across multiple jurisdictions. Working collaboratively with finance, legal and regulatory colleagues, you'll help ensure our compliance, while identifying opportunities in both existing and new markets.

Your primary focus will be conducting thorough regulatory research to support our market expansion and operational needs. You'll analyze incentive programs, study market entry requirements, and maintain comprehensive documentation of regulatory frameworks across different territories. This isn't a lobbying position – it's about understanding, interpreting, and clearly communicating complex regulatory requirements to help our teams make informed decisions.

Success in this role means becoming our go-to expert for regulatory insights, spending most of your time researching and analyzing regulatory requirements, with a smaller portion dedicated to tariff analysis. You'll create and maintain detailed documentation systems that make complex regulatory information accessible and actionable for teams across the organization.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Own source of truth documentation for project financial model inputs, such as: tariff rates, NEM credit values, SREC values and term lengths, program term lengths, offtake requirements.
  • Advise Sales and Ops/design teams on how best to model solar program rules, tariffs and incentives for new market opportunities being evaluated.
  • Track critical program dates and caps, (e.g. when a particular community solar program application window begins and closes or how much capacity remains in a declining block incentive program).
  • Interpret interconnection requirements as determined by solar program rules, utility rulebooks, local codes/standards, or system operator guidelines (like CAISO or PJM).
  • Outreach to reps from utilities, ISOs, governments, AHJs, or other program administrators when clarification is necessary.

You Are A:

  • Regulatory expert with proven solar or utility industry experience and deep understanding of multi-jurisdictional frameworks.
  • Research powerhouse who knows exactly where to find and how to interpret regulatory information from federal, state, and local sources.
  • Documentation wizard who can create clear, comprehensive guides that make complex regulatory information accessible and actionable.
  • Independent self-starter who can take full ownership of complex research projects, while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
  • Skilled communicator who can distill complex regulatory concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.

You Get Bonus Points For:

  • Combined experience in both solar and utility sectors.
  • Advanced Excel skills for building and maintaining complex regulatory tracking systems.
  • Experience with multiple types of utility tariffs, including community solar and net metering.
  • Track record of successful regulatory analysis for new market entry.
  • Experience creating and maintaining regulatory compliance documentation systems.

  • Health benefits
  • Unlimited PTO
