The Audit Specialist supports key audit functions by assisting the Director of Audit, managing risk assessments, coordinating with third-party auditors, and preparing for FDIC examinations. This role ensures efficient processes, maintains documentation, and strengthens controls while fostering collaboration across teams and external entities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Serve as a direct back-up to the Director of Audit, continually developing knowledge and skills in all relevant areas of responsibility.
- Assist in the completion of Annual Risk Assessment, making informed decisions regarding risk ratings and collaborating with business lines to develop understanding of risk and any relevant departmental or functional changes.
- Effectively and proactively communicate and track the status of the annual audit plan.
- Assist with Request for Proposals when researching new audit firms.
- Assist with all Third Party Outsourced Auditor administrative responsibilities (e.g., Internal Audit, BSA, IT), coordinating documentation, scheduling meetings, conducting appropriate follow-ups, and delivering guidance on appropriateness of responses.
- Assist with FDIC examination preparation and onsite responsibilities, coordinating documentation, scheduling meetings, conducting appropriate follow-ups, delivering guidance on appropriateness of responses, and requesting technology needs.
- Serve as a liaison between business lines and outsourced audit/regulator(s).
- Maintain the Issues Tracking spreadsheet, following up with owners, documenting progress, ensuring appropriate resolution, and analyzing samples as necessary to determine if issues are isolated or systemic.
- As requested, conduct audits and walkthroughs to document processes and suggest controls.
- Continually assess control design and effectiveness, making recommendations for improvements as appropriate.
- Assist with Audit Committee reporting and updating Audit-related policies and/or charters.
- Consistently and routinely document processes and perform administrative tasks.
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality with all information obtained, ensuring customer confidence and protecting bank operations.
- Assume responsibility to additional projects and tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, a related field, or a commensurate combination of education and experience required.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience in banking or auditing required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Proficient understanding of audit functions and relevant laws and regulations.
- Confident decision-making abilities and the skill to use sound judgment about the timing of choices; particularly the ability to make informed, responsible decisions with limited information or under considerable amounts of stress.
- Successful project management and strategic planning experience with a substantial record of managing projects, setting goals, developing timelines, and monitoring progress.
- Strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to analyze potential project outcomes with the adaptability to redirect attention as needed to meet targets and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers at all levels.
- A positive and proactive approach to work, demonstrating enthusiasm, adaptability, and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful or adverse conditions.
- Proficient computer literacy, including comfort with Microsoft systems and Office Suite.
- Intermediate typing skills to meet the needs of this position.
- Current driver’s license and reliable transportation with appropriate insurance coverage; additionally, the ability to drive occasionally in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
- The ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced certification in compliance, auditing, or a related field preferred.
