We are currently searching for a Certified Professional Coder to join our growing company. The Certified Professional Coder researches and analyzes data needs for reimbursement. Analyzes medical records and identifies documentation deficiencies. Serves as resource and subject matter expert to other coding staff. Reviews and verifies documentation supports diagnoses, procedures, and treatment results.
Responsibilities:
- Accounts for coding and abstracting of patient encounters, including diagnostic and procedural information, significant reportable elements, and complications.
- Researches and analyzes data needs for reimbursement.
- Analyzes medical records and identifies documentation deficiencies.
- Analyzing denials and assisting A/R team in resolving claim rejections related to coding issues.
- Reviews and verifies documentation supports diagnoses, procedures and treatment results.
- Identifies diagnostic and procedural information.
- Audits clinical documentation and coded data to validate documentation supports services rendered for reimbursement and reporting purposes.
- Assigns codes for reimbursements, research and compliance with regulatory requirements utilizing guidelines.
- Follows coding conventions. Serves as coding consultant to care providers.
- Identifies discrepancies, potential quality of care, and billing issues.
- Researches, analyzes, recommends, and facilitates plan of action to correct discrepancies and prevent future coding errors.
- Identifies reportable elements, complications, and other procedures.
- Serves as resource and subject matter expert to other coding staff.
- Assists in orienting, training, and mentoring staff.
- Provides ongoing training to staff as needed.
- Maintaining coding certification through up-to-date continuing education opportunities
- Handles special projects as requested.
- Contact physicians and other health care professionals with questions about treatments or diagnostic tests given to patients with regard to coding procedures.
Qualifications:
- ICD-10: 1 year (Required)
- Medical Billing: 2 years (Required)
- Certified Professional Coder (Required)
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
- Proven work experience as a Medical Coder or similar role
- Experience in researching and applying coding rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of medical terminology including orthopedic procedures, insurance, and coding guidelines
- Competent use of computer systems and software
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Outstanding organizational and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment. Being able to triage priorities and multi-task.
- Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality as per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
