Bard High School Early College Newark Full-time Department Chairperson – Science Job Title : Full-time Department Chairperson – SciencePosition Description : Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Newark, a partnership between Bard College and the Newark Board of Education school district (NBOE) in Newark, NJ, invites applications for full-time faculty positions in the Science Department to serve in the leadership role of Department Chairperson.The responsibilities of the Department Chair will be to coach our faculty community members, to facilitate the creation of effective curricula, to conduct teacher / faculty evaluations, to provide support with administration of district, state, and College Board testing, and to supervise our Humanities programs and faculty. The Department Chair will also lead staff development sessions and will direct our Writing and Thinking program. Attendance at district meetings and trainings is also mandated.All Science specialties are welcome, although expertise in Physics and Chemistry is especially desirable. Successful candidate will supervise the Science department, coach faculty in Science, ensure the curriculum and State standards are followed, prepare evaluations as required.The Department Chair should be well-versed in DEI-related concepts and have a commitment to advancing equity in education by fostering faculty understanding of the importance of reducing potential barriers to student inclusion.Experience in leadership roles is needed. Experience in teaching formal writing is also desirable. The Department Chairperson may be asked to teach or provide coverage for a class, depending on school and faculty coverage needs. Additional specific chairperson duties consistent with specific contractual terms of employment also exist.Compensation : This is a NBOE position.
