Job Summary:

The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Cultures at Barnard College seeks a full-time Term Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses. This is a one-year position beginning on July 1, 2025, with teaching responsibilities during the standard academic year from September through May.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will teach first- and second-year Arabic language courses on our campus. Term Lecturers teach three courses (or equivalent for intensive) per semester. The position is renewable on an annual basis up to a maximum of two years of service.

Candidates should submit applications by April 10, 2025. The search committee plans to conduct Zoom interviews in April 2025.

Exact instructional assignments and other academic responsibilities are determined by the Chair or Director.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Required Qualifications

PhD in Arabic, with all requirements for the degree completed by the beginning of the appointment.  

Candidates should have at least three years of teaching experience at the undergraduate levels and evidence of service in the profession. Specialization in language pedagogy is desirable, and candidates whose research involves some aspect of the study of language, linguistics, and/or language pedagogy are encouraged to apply.

Salary: $85,500

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
