The Asian & Middle Eastern Cultures Department at Barnard College seeks a full-time Term Lecturer to teach undergraduate language courses. This is a one-year position beginning on July 1, 2025, with teaching responsibilities during the standard academic year from September through May.Job Description:
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the launch of Chinese as a new language at Barnard by teaching beginning and intermediate language courses on our campus. Term Lecturers teach three courses per semester. The position is renewable on an annual basis up to a maximum of two years of service.
Candidates should submit applications by March 31, 2025. The search committee plans to conduct Zoom interviews in April 2025.
Exact instructional assignments and other academic responsibilities are determined by the AMEC department chair and the Columbia University Chinese language director.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree in Chinese (MA or PhD), with all requirements for the degree complete by the time of hiring offer.
Candidates should have at least three years teaching experience at the undergraduate levels, and evidence of service in the profession. Specialization in language pedagogy is desirable, and candidates whose research involves some aspect of the study of language, linguistics, and/or language pedagogy are encouraged to apply.

Salary: $85,500
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
