Position Summary

The Caledonia Central School District and Caledonia Central Supervisory Union are seeking a Principal to lead Barnet School, a small, innovative PreK-8 learning community, for the 2025-2026 school year. The Principal will coordinate administrative oversight and plan all phases of instructional leadership for the school, including educational programming, administration, budgetary planning, discipline, and counseling services.

You have strong leadership and communication skills, and you develop/depend on teacher-leadership. You are a data-driven decision-maker, and you seek input from teachers, staff, and community and use that input to inform your daily work. You set goals based on surveys, assessments and student learning to improve the school’s learning culture and align resources and make decisions focused on your schools improvement goals.

Job Duties

  • Leadership and Vision: Develop and implement a clear vision for the school that aligns with district goals.
  • Staff Management: Recruit, hire, and evaluate teachers and staff; provide professional development opportunities.
  • Curriculum Oversight: Ensure that the curriculum meets educational standards and is effectively implemented in classrooms.
  • Student Discipline: Establish and enforce school policies related to student behavior and discipline.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the school budget, allocate resources, and ensure financial accountability.
  • Community Engagement: Foster relationships with parents, community members, and local organizations to support school initiatives. Create and maintain formal and informal forms of communication through a variety of media.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze student performance data to inform instructional practices and improve student outcome.
  • Safety and Welfare: Ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for all students and staff.
  • Communication: Serve as the primary spokesperson for the school, communicating effectively with stakeholders.
  • Policy Implementation: Implement school district policies/procedures, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Uphold and carryout the CBA.
  • Event Coordination: Organize school events, including parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and student activities.
  • Mentorship: Provide support and guidance to new teachers and staff in their professional development.
  • Oversees the daily management of the school and office. Ensure that facilities are properly maintained and work with facility staff to plan and carry out facility improvements.
  • Ensures timely completion of routine and required paperwork, including attendance reports, test results, and licensing information for students, educators, staff, and school management.
  • Coordinates staff development with SU directors for faculty and staff based on school and SU school improvement plans and provides training if needed.
  • Oversees the allocation of supplies and equipment.
  • Oversees and implements the school budget, approving new programs and expenditures as appropriate.
  • Acts as liaison between the district/SU and the school; communicates needs and information to both sides.
  • Collaborates with other principals and educators throughout the supervisory union.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Must hold or have the ability to obtain appropriate administrative licensure in Vermont.
  • Must hold a master's degree in education, administration, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in education, including educational leadership.
  • Highly collaborative with all stakeholders, including community partners
  • A level-headed, calm communicator
  • Supportive of strong teacher leadership
  • Skilled in the implementation of trauma-informed practices
  • Knowledgeable and fluent in: Personalized learning, project-based learning, and proficiency-based assessment
  • Knowledgeable and fluent in: Habits of Work and Learning & Transferable Skills
  • Practices that expand beyond a behaviorist approach to discipline (restorative practices and collaborative problem-solving)
  • Focused on building a culture of belonging and student voice.
  • Committed to developing positive relationships with staff, students, and families. Your strong communication skills build community and positively represent the school.
  • Able to work collaboratively with school leaders across the Supervisory Union.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach staff of all experience levels, including teachers new to the profession
  • Knowledge and experience implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.
  • Primary and secondary experience (as leader and/or teacher)
  • Managing resources effectively (including budget and grants management)

Physical Requirements

  • The work environment is in a mixed environment, with moderate noise, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
  • The work is light/moderate work, requiring exertion of up to 30 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
