What are the responsibilities and job description for the Insurance Verification and Billing Specialist position at Barnett Allergy Asthma Center?
We are looking for a friendly & dependable medical billing administrator for our busy Allergy/Asthma medical office. This is a hybrid role that involves medical reception and significant understanding of medical billing. Prior experience with Allergist office and Athena EHR preferred but not necessary. Prior recent (within past 3 years) experience in an outpatient Physician practice and with insurance billing knowledge required.
Responsibilities include answering phones, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance benefits, patient check in/check out, collecting payments, dropping claims to insurance and insurance claims follow up. This is a one location medical office that is privately owned and operated (not part of a hospital or corporation).
Details:
Check patients in- insurance card/DL scan, signing consents & policies.
Check patients out- collecting appropriate TOS $ per insurance verification sheet, explaining patient’s bill to them plus what we were quoted benefits over phone.
Dropping claims in Athena EMR to payors.
Answering the phone and scheduling visits, taking messages and directing calls appropriately.
Insurance benefit verification calls.
Provide financial estimates to patients for the services we offer.
Taking credit card payments over the phone
Running billing worklists for collections, calling patients to collect balances.
Calling insurances to follow upon denied or pended claims. __________________________________________________________________
Hours (adds to 36 hours with a 30-minute lunch-flexibility to start earlier on Tuesdays if 38 hours is needed)
Mon/Thu 7:50-5:30pm,
Tue 9:50-6:30pm,
Wed 7:20-5pm.
Off Friday-Sunday.
Benefits
*$20-22 – TBD based on experience
*PTO starts accruing after 90 days
Paid Holidays after 90 days – New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day (when they fall on a M-Th)
Full time employees accrue 3 hours of PTO for every paycheck cycle (about every 2 weeks) starting after the 90-day introductory period.
Health care stipend $150/month after 6 months of FT employment
Scrubs stipend of $100 at hire & annually
401K plan with 4% matching after 12 months of employment.
