What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle/High School English Teacher position at Barr-Reeve Community Schools?
Barr-Reeve Community Schools is seeking a passionate and energetic Middle/High School English Teacher to join our dedicated team for the upcoming school year. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about fostering a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking in students and capable of delivering engaging, rigorous, and standards-based English instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that promote active learning in English Language Arts.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials aligned to Indiana academic standards.
- Inspire students to engage with literature, develop strong writing skills, and think critically about language and communication.
- Assess and document student progress; provide timely feedback and maintain accurate records.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a supportive and respectful classroom environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues, attend department and school meetings, and engage with families to support student success.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to continually improve instructional practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, English Education, or a related field.
- Valid Indiana State Teaching License in English/Language Arts (grades 5–12), or eligibility to obtain one.
- While prior experience teaching English is valued, it is not required. We welcome and support new teachers and recent graduates who are excited to begin their careers in education.
- Strong understanding of Indiana English/Language Arts academic standards.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
