We are currently looking to fill a Director of Accounting and Payroll position for a client in the higher education sector. This role is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing financial reporting, payroll, audits, and compliance while driving efficiency and process improvements.
Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma
Pay: $95,000-$104,000 DOE
About the Role
The Director of Accounting and Payroll will manage financial operations, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and lead payroll processing. This position plays a vital role in maintaining accuracy, efficiency, and financial integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead monthly financial close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Oversee cash management, investments, bond and debt activities.
- Manage and ensure timely, accurate payroll processing while maintaining compliance with policies and regulations.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with external auditors to ensure successful audits and financial compliance.
- Analyze financial statements, variances, and budget alignment for strategic decision-making.
- Provide leadership in financial system upgrades, ERP utilization, and process improvements.
- Ensure GAAP compliance, proper classification, and recording of all financial transactions.
- Assist with tax return preparation and coordinate with the audit and treasury teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5-7 years of relevant experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial concepts
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
- Experience using ERP and accounting systems
- Strong financial analysis, reporting, and compliance knowledge
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Extensive experience in payroll management and HRIS systems like ADP and Paychex
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education or nonprofit accounting
- Proven success in managing financial projects and system implementations
