What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tasting Room Associate position at Barrel 33 Sandpoint?
Our tasting room is where customers are introduced to, learn about, and fall in love with our wines! Our tasting room employees embody what Barrel 33 stands for: Excellent customer service and going above and beyond to provide a fun, friendly and relaxing environment. Employees are also able to provide an educational component to our customers’ experience by answering questions about the wine, the vineyards and the history of the farms and businesses we work with. In addition, tasting room employees often take on a wide range of duties and responsibilities outside of the tasting room, as Barrel 33 continues to host and participate in numerous events.
The shop employee position requires a strong commitment to making sure guests are satisfied, and daily, weekly, and monthly tasks are completed on a regular basis. Each employee should have a positive and upbeat demeanor.
The role requires employees to complete a multitude of tasks that include pouring beers and wines for customers, as well as cooking and serving foods, cleaning tasks, and ensuring customers are enjoying their experience with us.
The primary job duties of a Shop Employee include:
- Uphold cleanliness and sanitation practices.
- Manage time effectively. Utilize time with no customers. (Trash, wine labeling and entering in system, etc.)
- Do not use cell phones in front of guests.
- Manage inventory. (Marking out wines)
- Do not waste product. (Cups, napkins, bags, wine, etc.)
- Keep track of top selling items.
- Communicate effectively. Communicate any and all issues to shop manager and/or owners.
- Ensure shop manager knows in advance when product needs to be ordered.
- Rotate products. (Wines, food, etc.)
- Follow cash handling procedures.

Barrel 33
- Must be 21 years of age or older to serve alcohol, but can work 14-21 years of age.
- Weekend availability required. Flexible schedule preferred (evenings, different shift options on weekends, etc.)
- Be warm, friendly, outgoing, professional, reliable, trust-worthy and demonstrate excellent customer service.
- Prior wine knowledge is not at all required, but employees should have the continuous enthusiasm and desire to learn about wine, our products, the vineyard and history of Mallow Run.
- Complete the Food Safety Training course as required by the state
- Working at Barrel 33 is a very physical job! We ask that our employees are able to lift 40-50lbs on a regular basis, be comfortable standing for long periods of time, and lift, bend, squat and push/pull large objects with relative ease.
- Ability to multi-task, recognize and prioritize things that needs to be done and initiate action in a fast-paced environment. Also the ability to stay busy and recognize tasks that can be completed during slower periods.
