The Position:
The Director, Transportation, reporting to the VP of Transportation, is responsible for implementing the organization’s strategic operational strategy in all phases of company transportation offerings (Parcel, Purchased Transportation, Asset-based transportation, freight audit and payment, Projects as-needed).
This position works Monday through Friday, from 8am-5pm.
The compensation range for this position is $95K-$105K, depending on experience.

Your Day-to-Day:
- Provide oversight and leadership to Operations Managers, Billing Managers, Dispatch Managers including recruiting, training, and performance management.
- Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate operational and organizational risks; escalate key risks and issues to VP of Transportation and/or Senior Leadership.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining SOPs for the Transportation Division that instill efficient and effective operations and lead to high client satisfaction
- Assists in supporting sales in client-facing role (in-person, video meeting, telephone conferences, email), comfortably and adeptly explain and present Barrett Transportation Value Add services.
- In conjunction with the transportation leadership team, is responsible for budget and revenue management
- Manage to division P&L
- Review internal and external performance metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to support key initiatives
- Ensures compliance and maintains knowledge of Federal Department of Transportation regulations and other safety standards
- Maintains thorough knowledge of industry trends and technology.
- Contributes to, participates in, and cultivates ongoing strong vendor relationships with transactional and relationship owners
- Analyze Vendor Performance and identify areas of improvement (cost/vendor-performance/client experience)
- Analyze Client Business Behaviors and identify areas of process improvement (cost/vendor-performance/client experience) and/or increased profitability.
- Participate in negotiation of vendor contracts that allow for revenue growth, margin growth, or both
- Liaise with DC operations around the country to ensure proper process flow and information exchange between DC operations and Transportation Division.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience managing and leading transportation or supply chain organizations.
- Experience working in Transportation Management Systems is required.
- Experience working in ERP/WMS preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft business applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong presentation and overall communication skills from warehouse floor to senior executive.
- Able to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines. Strong emphasis on organizational skills, analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
- Proven experience engaging clients through professional investigative techniques to understand the client’s needs, discover new opportunities and overcome challenges.
