What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle and Upper School Spanish Teacher position at Barrie Middle & Upper School?
What You Will Do – Responsibilities of the Position
Reporting to the Head of Middle & Upper School, the Middle & Upper School Spanish Teacher would be responsible for teaching classes, advising, and supporting divisional DEI efforts. This is a full-time, exempt faculty position with a start date of August 15, 2025.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Teach 4 year-long Spanish classes at levels that range from Spanish 1(novice mid) to Advanced Topics in Spanish (intermediate high ),plus a one-trimester elective
- Use TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), andother acquisition-driven instructional methods
- Maintain that all students are capable of acquiring a second language
- Guide and support a group of 8-10 students as a Middle or Upper School advisor
- Work with Student Support Team to ensure all students’ needs are being met
- Lead proactive, transparent communications with families to support students
- Fully participate in the life of Middle and Upper School, including clubsand other student activities
- Help build an intentionally inclusive community, demonstrate cross-culturalcompetency, and promote culturally responsive-sustaining education
- Attend weekly (schoolwide, divisional, departmental) faculty meetings
- Participate in required evening and/or weekend school functions such as Backto Barrie Night, Open Houses, Extended Study Week Showcase, Graduation
- Perform chaperoning, car circle, and substitute duties as needed
- Lead and/or support two week-long Experiential Education programs(may require overnight travel)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications of a Successful Candidate
We seek candidates who possess
- An undergraduate degree (advanced degree preferred)
- Background in education (at least 3 years of teaching preferred).
- Advanced proficiency in Spanish
- Commitment to using TPRS and other acquisition-driven instructionalstrategies in the classroom
- Familiarity with the Vamos, SOMOS, and/or Huellas curriculum orwillingness to learn it
