Boyd-Quinson Crew Chief
Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking a Crew Chief to join our team in Pittsfield, MA for the 2025 summer season. This position maintains scenic elements and ensures the smooth running of the backstage areas throughout every performance and technical rehearsal. The Crew Chief supervises the Stage Crew and Production Assistants as assigned. This position requires a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, that is able to follow instructions efficiently and stay alert and focused during high-pressure situations.

Responsibilities:
- Assist with load-in and strike of scenery
- Make sure all line sets used in each show are properly spiked before onstage rehearsals, and that spikes are struck after each show
- Train and supervise stage crew in proper methods to operate fly systems and move scenery
- Attend every technical rehearsal and performance
- Work with stage management to organize offstage storage of props and scenery and to develop shift plots for moving scenery and props during the performance
- Oversee the preset of props and scenery for each show as assigned by Stage Management
- Ensure stage and backstage areas are swept, mopped, and cleaned before each rehearsal and performance
- Notify Stage Management, Technical Directors, and Props Supervisors of any broken scenery or props and execute emergency repairs of props and scenery during the run of the show. Coordinate any additional repair needs with relevant departments
- Keep paperwork up to date by noting any changes to presets or run lists by the Stage Crew, and provide Stage Management with updates
- Assist with the daily post-show cleanup
Skills:
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to read and understand blueprints
- Knowledge of scenic construction techniques and materials, and working knowledge of pneumatics preferred
- Knowledge of automation techniques
- Extensive experience with counterweight fly systems and rigging
- Knowledge of the theatrical production process
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Ability to efficiently complete assigned individual tasks
- Ability to stay alert and focused during long periods of inactivity
- Ability to work with a wide range of personalities
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and comfortable working at heights
- Good eyesight in low-light conditions
This position reports to the Technical Director and Stage Managers. It is a full-time, seasonal position, starting 5/19/2025 through 8/31/2025
Pay is $876.15 per week non-exempt, with overtime starting at 50 hours, and housing available.
