What are the responsibilities and job description for the Victims Assistance Investigator position at Barrow County BOC?
This position performs investigatory, victim assistance and administrative duties in support of department operations. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Barrow County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.
MAJOR DUTIES
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
MAJOR DUTIES
- Prepares trial calendars; sends notices and subpoenas; coordinates witnesses for trial; provides support for victims and witnesses; attends court to assist attorneys as needed.
- Coordinates victim services; corresponds with victims by telephone and mail; schedules victim conferences; obtains statements, medical release forms, or other evidence; updates victims on the status of the case; discusses restitution; notifies victims of pending court dates.
- Serves as liaison between attorneys and victims, witnesses and law enforcement agencies.
- Opens case files; receives warrants and bond sheets; makes copies; requests all required reports and records.
- Performs additional investigations for criminal cases; issues subpoenas and search warrants; schedules and attends forensic interviews.
- Prepares cases for Grand Jury; subpoenas officers; assists attorneys during presentations.
- Schedules and sends notices for plea conferences.
- Assists attorneys in court as needed.
- Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of local, state and federal law.
- Knowledge of investigative tools and techniques.
- Knowledge of trail proceedings.
- Knowledge of computers and job related software programs.
- Knowledge of victims' rights and available victims' resources.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
