Job Summary:
Under direct supervision of a licensed RN, the CNAs will provide basic nursing care to patients. In addition, they will support and maintain a safe and clean environment for patients. Incumbents will be assigned a specific home unit, but may be floated to other areas for additional support when needed.
The CNA needs to be proficient in speaking English in order to accurately and effectively communicate with patients. Patients include those from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, socio-economic standing, education, etc. Depending on the home unit assigned to the CNA, they may be required to learn the skills necessary to provide the best care to patients experiencing Mental Health and Substance Abuse challenges.
There are two levels in the CNA job class, both requires a current State of Alaska Certified Nurse Assistance License. New hires are placed at the level the incumbent meets minimum qualifications for.
What You Will Do:
- Provides patient care as determined by protocol and by direction of the RN.
- Measures and records vital signs and reports any out of range measurements to the RN.
- Assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) as needed.
- Interacts with patients according to the CARE values.
- Uses de-escalation skills when needed.
- Manage patient inventory (searching, laundering, separating contraband).
- Safety checks of patient rooms.
- Perform 15-minute patient checks.
- Manage meal trays.
- Document hours of sleep, I &O as ordered.
- Document any noteworthy interactions in Meditech.
- Orient patient to the unit.
- Maintains safe, clean environment for patients and staff.
Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
CNA II: ($25.40 - $30.62 per hour)
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Master entry level CNA I skills and duties and complete initial advanced skills training checklist within 6 months of hire. CNA II must maintain quarterly skills training checklists and competencies.
- License(s): Current State of Alaska Certified Nurse Assistant License.
- Certification(s): Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR/AED certificate. Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt (TEAM) & Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) training within 90 days of hire.
Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
